Double-takes.

Aligned with Alexa

Wow, where to begin? I mean, it's not hard to explain, or understand: Alexa Meade paints people and then photographs them, the end result being a photograph that looks exactly like a painting. She sits, above, with one of her subjects. It's fantastical! Magical!

Enjoy:

Mesmerizing, hypnotizing.

Okay okay okay.

i always hear about stuff too late. And this is no exception: YooouuuTuuube.com.

My first (and still best) exposure was this. (warning: it may play choppily if you have many other things running on your computer, or if you are looking at another window while it plays.)

(By the way, here is that original video; it was put together by a young Australian guy using sounds and sights found in the animated movie Alice in Wonderland. Gives me shivers, it's so good. But then, i am madly in love with that movie.

Another video worth a listen (and watch) by him is the Mary Poppins track. Guy knows his melancholy.)

Unfortunately, nothing else i've played on YooouuuTuuube fills me with as much satisfaction as that Alice video. Still a neato tool, though.

dizzying.

...because sometimes, just sometimes, i am here to help blow your minds.

(Click on the titles of any of the above videos to watch them, full-sized, on their proper sites. Honestly, i don't know why i can't figure out how to format things to fit on here.)

Thursday, April 9

So, when was the last time you watched Disney's The Black Hole? I'm gonna go ahead and guess "way too long ago".

i was not quite two months old when it came out... Pretty sure my dad had it recorded on Betamax, but i haven't looked through those tapes in years, so i could be wrong. In any case, Nat and i just finished watching it tonight (thank you, Netflix!) for the first time in, well, decades!

i won't say much, here; i wouldn't want to ruin it for anyone who was maybe thinking of watching it again for themselves. Oh, who am i kidding: basically i am here to post the freaking amazing ending sequence. Are you ready? Buckle up, friends.

...so how was that, then? Fun for the whole family? As Nat remarked early on during this heavy, stranged-out climax: "thank god for the drug trips of the '60s and '70s."

It's certainly not a great film, but one that is truly haunting and memorable. Robots, humans, good vs. evil, man's self-destructive thirst for knowledge, and, oh yeah- a black hole. Watch it, folks! Surprisingly thought-provoking and, if anything, a strong dose of nostalgia. (Yeah, i said "strong dose" on purpose.)

p.s.) i officially need to carry my camera around with me more often, because i saw a doozy of an Easter Bunny cake wreck at the grocery store near my house tonight. Words cannot express... well, just look at the link. You'll see what we're up against. Let's just say that some people should not be allowed to handle piping bags and/or frosting.
